The Unexpected War – A New Beginning

A New Beginning is the third instalment in the five-part The Unexpected War series.  I read the first two books a few years ago, before I started this blog.  This is Jean-Pierre Breton’s first published work.

Breton alternates from scenes of everyday life to violent battle scenes.  He builds characters with promising futures but does not hesitate to kill them in an instant.  The result is a tone of complete unpredictability.  This makes the reader feel exactly what the rebel soldiers experience every moment of their hunted lives.

The setting is a slightly modified modern-day Earth, a few years after hostile (mostly) aliens have attacked, having just lost their own world.  Many scenes take place in the forests of what we would know as maritime Canada.  The harsh climate plays a regular role in adding to the misery of the rebels.

I look forward to the next two books and anything else Breton creates for his fans!

Aliens and magic abound in A New Beginning.  Readers will love this unique merger of sci-fi and fantasy!

No one is safe in A New Beginning.  Breton’s unpredictable plotting leaves the reader feeling as hunted as the rebel soldiers.
