Skinwalkers pits an axe-wielding ex-pirate against a horde of marauders that can change into wild animals: pretty cool stuff!

For a debut novel, the writing is unusually and pleasantly mature.  Wagner always keeps excellent control of the story’s pace and there are no characters that are over- or under-used.  I did a little research and found out that Wagner has published many short stories: she is not a newbie author, even if this is her first book.

If you’re wondering whether to try Skinwalkers, I can tell you this is a can’t lose story for fantasy fans.  This book has a strong protagonist, ruthless villains, menacing monsters and plenty enough battle to sate your inner privateer.  Plus, it’s just a really fun tale!

I look forward to An Oath of Dogs, available in less than two months.

Wagner’s sharp storytelling makes for enjoyable reading!
