Strange Practice follows the adventures of Greta Helsing, a doctor whose clientele is monsters. Vampires, ghouls, mummies, etc., attend her clinic in modern-day London for their unique ailments. When someone starts murdering humans and monsters, Greta and her friends decide to investigate.
Shaw does a great job of creating a band of friends out of some unlikely characters – both human and supernatural. Friendship is a strong theme in this story, and this gives Strange Practice a pleasing, heartwarming tone – which is uncommon in fantasy novels these days.
I really enjoyed the story and hope to see more from Shaw, soon. The sequel, Bad Company, is already in the works.
